A good photo booth earns its place at a party. People drift over with a friend, come back with the whole table and leave with a photo they can stick on the fridge. Getting that result takes a little planning: the right hours, an easy place to find the booth and enough room for guests to join in.
If you're organising an event in Geelong, this guide covers the decisions to make before booking. Geelong Booth Co. hires timber, open-air photo booths with an attendant, unlimited live prints and a choice of backdrop. Packages start at $449 for two hours. Travel is free within 15 km of central Geelong; beyond that, we quote travel after your enquiry.
You can go straight to our guides for wedding photo booth hire, birthdays and parties or corporate events if you've already settled on the occasion.
What do you get when you hire a photo booth?
Our booth is an open-air setup: a wooden camera unit faces a backdrop, with room for people to stand together. Guests tap the screen to start a session, follow the prompts and collect their printed strips. An attendant stays with the booth to help guests, manage the setup and keep it running through the booked hours.
Every Geelong Booth Co. package includes unlimited live prints, props, a personalised photo strip and a backdrop from our collection. Digital sharing is included, and you receive an event gallery after the celebration. Our standard gallery turnaround is within 48 hours.
The hire period is the time guests can use the booth. Setup and pack-down are included, but venue access still needs to be arranged. Giving us the start time of the party is helpful; giving us the time the venue lets suppliers inside is just as useful. If the room isn't available until shortly before guests arrive, put that in your enquiry so we can check the plan.
Packages differ by duration. You don't need to move up to a longer package to get the attendant, prints or backdrop. Choose your hours around the event schedule and the time guests will actually have to use the booth.
How much does photo booth hire cost in Geelong?
Our two-hour Party package is $449. Three hours is $559, four hours is $669, five hours is $779 and six hours is $889. Each includes the same core equipment and service. See our packages and inclusions for the current booking options.
A personalised strip with your names or event title, date, colours and fonts is included. A Branded Photo Strip designed from scratch with a company logo and brand colours is an optional $50 addition. Extra hire time is $110 per hour, subject to availability and the venue's operating arrangements.
Travel within 15 km of central Geelong is free. For a venue beyond that area, send the address and we'll include any travel charge in your quote. The package price is a useful starting point, and the confirmed quote sets out your event total. A venue in the wider Geelong or Bellarine region shouldn't be assumed to qualify for free travel solely because of its suburb name.
When comparing suppliers, check whether their prices include printing, an attendant, a backdrop and setup. Ask about the cost of personalisation and how you receive the digital files. A lower headline price can describe quite a different hire, so compare the services you want for the same number of operating hours.
Choosing the right number of hours
Start with the event's busiest social period. A booth operating while everyone is seated for a long meal will have less use than one open when people are moving around. The arrival time, speeches, food service and finish time give you a better basis for choosing a package than guest numbers alone.
Two hours can work for a shorter gathering with a clear window for photos. Three hours gives a birthday or cocktail event more breathing room. Four hours can suit a wedding reception that needs time either side of the formalities. Five or six hours may make sense when guests arrive over a longer period or you want coverage through several parts of the event. These are starting points, and your run sheet may suggest something different.
Think about who will leave early. If grandparents or families with children are heading home after dinner, opening the booth only late at night may mean they miss it. Starting a little earlier can be more useful than extending the finish time.
Also distinguish elapsed time from active photo time. If a four-hour booking contains an hour of speeches, you have less opportunity for guest sessions. Tell us about planned pauses before booking; don't assume the hire clock automatically stops. Our guide to choosing photo booth hire hours walks through a few sample schedules.
Where should the booth go?
Allow roughly 3 m by 3 m for the setup, with a standard power point nearby. Guests need room to step into the photo, collect prints and move away while the next group gets ready. A floor plan should show the space around the booth as well as the equipment footprint.
Visibility matters. A position near the main celebration, where guests can see people enjoying it, is usually a better starting point than a separate room down a corridor. Give it some separation from the loudest speakers, food service queues and doorways. A line of people waiting for photos needs somewhere to form without blocking other guests.
Ask the venue to confirm the final position. A space that looks empty during a walkthrough may later hold a dessert table, a drinks station or the band's equipment. Mark the booth on the same floor plan those suppliers use. If you expect a room change between a ceremony and reception, check whether the booth can be set up once and stay in place.
For an outdoor or partly covered event, discuss shelter, level ground, power and a weather backup before confirming the location. A timber booth and printer need a suitable operating space. A casual description such as "under the verandah" isn't enough to work out what the setup will be like on the day. Photos and measurements help.
Making room for your guests
Open-air booths let people join in without entering an enclosed cabin. Groups of around six to eight can work well, depending on how people fit in front of the backdrop. Smaller groups are easier to arrange, and the attendant can help with positioning.
If a guest will use a wheelchair, have a mobility aid or prefer to be photographed while seated, tell us when you book. We can discuss the proposed location and setup with you and the venue. Check the route to the booth too: a generous photo area is of little use if a narrow path or a step makes it difficult to reach.
Children can enjoy the booth with their family, although it shouldn't be treated as a childcare activity. For a mixed-age party, simple props and a clear place to wait help keep sessions moving. You'll find more detail in our space and setup checklist.
Choosing a backdrop without overthinking it
Your backdrop is included, so choose one that works with the room and the clothes people are likely to wear. Plain White and Drapery give the pictures a simple background. Black Marble or Black Gold Lines can suit an evening event. Pink Flower Wall brings a stronger decorative element, while the sequin options make sense when you want something more playful.
Our 15 backdrops also include White Marble, Gold Sequin, Silver Sequin, Black Sequin, Tropical Leaves, Wood Lights, Gold Light Strands, Neon, Stage and Christmas Sweater. Browse the actual designs alongside your event colours. The name alone won't tell you how much pattern will appear behind a group.
You can make the backdrop and strip work together without matching every colour. A detailed floral background often needs a simpler strip; a plain backdrop leaves more room for colour in the printed design. The wedding backdrop guide explains this with choices that work for other celebrations too.
What belongs on a personalised photo strip?
Keep the text short enough to read on a small print. Names and a date are often all a wedding strip needs. For a birthday, a name and age may be enough. At a company event, the event name usually earns its space more than a full list of sponsors or a lengthy slogan.
Check the spelling and date on the design proof, even if you've typed them correctly on the booking form. Share the approved version with whoever has final say, and nominate one person to collect feedback. That saves a late round of conflicting changes.
If you want a business logo, our optional $50 Branded Photo Strip covers a bespoke design with your approved logo, colours and event messaging. Standard personalisation is included with every package. A custom branded backdrop is a separate production request and needs its own quote.
Our branded strip planning guide covers the artwork files and decisions worth sorting out before a work event.
Planning a wedding photo booth
At a wedding, fit the booth around the reception. Cocktail hour gives guests something to do while the couple is occupied elsewhere. After dinner can work well when formalities have finished and tables begin to mix. If you're choosing one period, consider which guests you most want in the photos and when they'll be free.
A guest book adds another small job for guests: take a strip, attach it and write a message. Put the book on a nearby table with pens and suitable adhesive. Leave enough room that people writing messages don't hold up those collecting prints. Ask a friend to encourage a few early entries, and make sure someone is responsible for taking the book home.
You should also leave a few minutes for your own photo. Couples can spend the reception moving between guests and miss the booth they've booked. Add a quick visit to your run sheet if a strip of the two of you matters. The Geelong wedding guide covers the full set of decisions, including a sample reception schedule.
Planning a birthday or private party
A birthday booth works well when it feels part of the party. Put it where people will naturally pass, and open it while there is time to gather different groups. Photos with school friends, relatives and workmates don't all happen in a single visit.
For a 21st, coordinate the booth with speeches and the busiest part of the night. For a 50th or a family celebration, an earlier session may catch more generations together. At a home event, access through the house, a suitable power source and a weather backup need attention before you choose the garden as the location.
Use the party's tone to choose props. Some hosts want plenty of silly photos; others prefer a small selection that leaves faces visible. Both can work. Tell us what you have in mind instead of feeling you need a separate theme just for the booth. Our party planning guide has more ideas for different ages and venues.
Planning a work event
For a staff party, the aim may simply be to give people an enjoyable activity and photos to take home. A conference or product launch may have a more specific brief. Define that before ordering artwork: it changes where the booth goes, how it is introduced and what the strip should say.
A booth at a conference needs operating hours that match the breaks. If guests have ten minutes to move between sessions, a long queue will be frustrating. Share the agenda and expected attendance so the hire can be planned around likely bursts of demand. Larger or multi-day events need a tailored discussion.
If the event includes optional email capture, agree the setup, consent wording and data handover before the day. Digital photo delivery and permission to receive marketing are different decisions. The booth shouldn't arrive with an unplanned request for guests' contact details. See our corporate event guide for the briefing questions.
What happens after you enquire?
Send your event date, venue address, preferred package and approximate operating times through the booking form. If the venue or schedule is still being settled, say so. We can use the information you have to discuss the next steps.
We check availability and confirm your quote. Submitting an enquiry doesn't by itself reserve the date. A booking contract and invoice set out the details, and a 25% deposit confirms the booking. The remaining balance is due one week before your event. Payment is by bank transfer using the details on the invoice.
Before the event, confirm the backdrop, strip design, access arrangements and contact person on the day. If the venue needs supplier documentation, mention it early so that it can be arranged. Changes to your date or hours should come through as soon as you know about them, as they depend on availability.
A new Geelong name with shared experience
Geelong Booth Co. is a sister brand of Melbourne Photobooth Co., run by the same owner under the same legal entity. The Geelong name is new, and the event experience behind it comes from the existing business. Reviews and company names shown as shared experience belong to that wider business history.
That distinction helps when you're comparing suppliers. You can see the kind of service behind the brand without assuming every past event took place in Geelong. For your own event, the details that matter are still the practical ones: the right date, a clear quote and a setup that works in your venue.
