A photo booth plan for a 50th birthday celebration

Make room for family, old friends and a few unexpected group photos at a 50th birthday. Plan timing, a backdrop and a simple keepsake album.

Wooden photo booth event styling inspiration

A 50th birthday can put several decades of friendships in the same room. Some people have known each other since school; others only know the host through work or the neighbourhood. Photos are a good reason to bring those groups together for a moment.

You don't need a complicated booth programme. Choose a useful time, make space for the family photos that matter and let the rest happen around the party. Our Geelong birthday photo booth guide covers the full hire plan. For prices and the confirmation process, see the Geelong photo booth hire guide.

Open while the family is still there

Ask about the likely departure time for older relatives and families with children. A late booth opening may suit the dancing but miss the people you most want photographed together.

Consider opening before speeches if there is a relaxed arrival period. If food service starts immediately, a later window may work better. The choice depends on your party rather than the milestone number on the invitation.

Write the intended booth hours on the same schedule as food and speeches. That lets the venue and anyone making announcements work from one version.

Make a small group-photo list

Choose the combinations you'd regret missing. You might want the host with their siblings, their children or a group of friends who no longer live nearby. A few specific photos are easier to arrange than a long list that pulls the host away from the whole evening.

Give the list to someone who knows the guests. They can catch people while they are together and ask whether they would like a photo. The booth attendant will help arrange the group in front of the camera.

For larger groups, think about splitting into a couple of sessions. Around six to eight people can work well in the open-air booth, depending on the group. Everyone should have room to be seen instead of squeezing in at the edge.

Choose the level of silliness

Some birthday people love props and exaggerated poses. Others will treasure a straightforward photo with a friend they haven't seen for years. A booth can accommodate both.

Tell us about the event's tone when you enquire. You can keep the prop selection simple and let guests choose whether to use it. A milestone birthday doesn't require age jokes on every sign or print.

If you are organising a surprise, use the host's taste as the guide. The people arranging the decorations may enjoy a theme more than the person whose name is going on the strip.

Keep the printed design easy to read

A name, a date and a small "50" can be enough for the included personalised strip. You can use the party colours and fonts without turning the print into a miniature invitation.

Check the exact wording with the person approving the event details. Some hosts want the age prominent; some prefer an event title or their name alone. Choose that before the design proof arrives.

For the backdrop, Plain White or Drapery gives a simple look, while Black Gold Lines and the sequin options can suit an evening celebration. Browse the full collection beside your invitation or room colours before deciding.

Leave room for a relaxed pace

Guests may spend time talking between photos or return with another group later. A longer operating window can allow that, especially if speeches divide the evening.

At Geelong Booth Co., two hours is $449, three hours $559 and four hours $669. Every package includes an attendant, unlimited live prints, props and a collection backdrop. The hire-hours guide explains how to choose from the event schedule.

Think about access as well. Allow roughly 3 m by 3 m for the setup and discuss a comfortable photo position for anyone who would prefer to sit. Tell us about mobility requirements before the event so the layout can be considered with the venue.

Make an album if you'd enjoy the messages

A nearby book gives guests somewhere to add a strip and a few words. Put pens and suitable adhesive on a separate table, with a short instruction and a sample entry. Ask one person to check the table during the evening and take the album home.

Our photo guest book guide works for birthdays as well as weddings. You will also receive a digital event gallery within our standard 48-hour turnaround.
